Our History
Wood International Agency Ltd was established in 1977 by Mike Lamont. Since then, the company has continued to grow and adapt to a dynamic international market. Now lead by Alan Lamont, family values and robust market knowledge remain at the forefront of the company.
With a history of working for Boise Cascade and Keizer Bambergers, Mike Lamont established WIA Ltd in 1977 to service Merrill Lynch Wood Markets for the Wickes Group in the US and European markets.
Alan Lamont joined the company in 1991, and worked initially in Louisiana Pacific’s plywood, OSB and MDF factories in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. He then moved north to Nova Scotia to work in their new state of the art Fiberbond mill. Using this experience, he went on to directly market and promote Fiberbond to the UK, before becoming involved with the sales of plywood.
During the late 1990’s WIA Ltd moved into the Brazilian market and rapidly became the UK’s largest agency for Brazilian Pine Plywood. The company is proud to have become the first agency to develop and import FSC hardwood plywood into the UK. We continue to promote and champion the FSC brand and the benefits that it entails.
Today WIA Ltd remains strong in the Brazilian market and continues to work with producers from across the globe. We have partnerships in North and South America, Asia, South Africa and Europe. Constantly seeking new alliances to ensure that we can secure the best possible products at the best possible prices.
